Top Ten – Skin-Enhancing Wonder Foods
I’ve compiled a list of the best foods that you can eat to give you a glowing, healthy complexion. Even if you’re using the best cleansers, moisturizers and exfoliators around, your skin could still do with a bit of a boost. So read on for some foods that will help give you better skin today!
Apple
GREEN Apples are absolutely packed full of fibre and pectin, which work together to help your food be digested more quickly and to stop fat being absorbed into your body. Apple peel also contains an antioxidant named quercetin, which reduces redness, puffiness and stops skin from being sensitive. Try to eat organic apples as these will ultimately have more nutrients.
Salmon
Wild Caught Salmon (Alaskan Sockeye) is a fantastic food that contains omega-3 fatty acids – smoothing out skin and preventing dry patches. Eat red, wild salmon a couple of times a week for the best benefits. Do not buy farm raised salmon.......they are not healthy forms of omega 3
Eggs
Organic Eggs, despite their cholesterol, are packed full of antioxidants. The yolks contain sulphur, which makes the skin brighter and more vibrant. These vitamins also help to clear the skin of any impurities. Eat a couple of organic eggs a day – battery eggs are not good for your skin and they’re not good for the chicken, either, so support organic where you can afford it.
Carrots
Carrots are full of vitamin A – and deficiency of vitamin A can cause dry skin. Carrots have long since been eaten because of their health-boosting properties, so add a couple of them to your diet today. Eat them either raw or roasted – and try to keep the skin on where possible, because this contains plenty of nutrients and vitamins that often get lost.
Almonds
Almonds are considered the best nut to eat for your health. They are packed full of magnesium, a nutrient which calms down anything going haywire with your skin and body. Experts suggest eating almonds as a snack throughout the day, which also stops you from snacking on unhealthy things like chocolate which could be bad for your skin.
Virgin Olive Oil
Ever wondered why the Italians have such great-looking skin and bodies? It’s not by chance – it’s due to the huge amount of olive oil they consume. Virgin Olive oil is fantastic for moisturizing your skin from the inside out and is one of the ‘good’ fats. Use it in salad dressings and to cook with – the greener the olive oil, the better. Choose an extra virgin olive oil if your budget allows.
Blueberries
We’re all coming to learn about antioxidant rich foods, and blueberries are one of the wonder-foods that are jam-packed full of them. The antioxidants in blueberries will cleanse your system and give a boost to your skin complexion. Eating blueberries regularly will protect your skin cells and keep your skin looking youthful for longer.
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a yummy alternative to traditional starchy potatoes. They’re absolutely full of vitamin C which will give your skin a healthy boost in terms of collagen. They also contain beta-carotenes which nourish the fat beneath the skin, plumping out fine lines and wrinkles. Check out my recipe for delicious sweet potato fries (SWEET POTATO RECIPE)
Lemon
Surprisingly, lemon has four times the amount of vitamin C than oranges. Vitamin C boosts collagen levels, and the citric acid in the fruit will help your body rid itself of toxins. Try half a lemon squeezed into a glass of cold water for a boost.
Yoghurt
Yoghurt (Greek Yogurt or Natural Kefir) or any other fresh live dairy products contain live cultures. These live cultures are known as ‘good bacteria’, which support your immune system and boost your vitamin levels. They also rid your body of things like yeast infections and prevent spots. Eat a few tbsp. of live yoghurt a day with fruit or vegetable crudités.
And of course.....IF you can afford it PLEASE BUY ORGANIC as MUCH AS POSSIBLE!......Eating Healthy along with daily exercise.....WILL MAKE THESE MONEY HUNGRY DOCTORS......STARVE!!!
